With clinics across Auckland, Skin Institute needed meeting rooms that just worked — no codec juggling, no dial-in PINs, no wasted time. Optimyze deployed Yealink A30 Teams Bars across their smaller consultation and team rooms, turning every space into a one-touch Teams meeting.
Running a multi-site healthcare business means a lot of internal meetings — clinical leadership, operations, HR, training — spread across locations that don't always sit in the same building. For Skin Institute, this meant calendar invites clogged with dial-in PINs, staff hunting for cables, and meetings that started five minutes late because someone couldn't get screen sharing to work.
When Optimyze conducted an IT review across their Auckland sites, the meeting room experience was identified as one of the biggest friction points in their day-to-day operations. The solution was straightforward: replace the fragmented setup with Microsoft Teams Rooms running on Yealink A30 video bars.
The Problem with the Old Setup
Skin Institute's previous meeting rooms were built around a mix of personal laptops, HDMI cables, and consumer-grade webcams. Staff joining from other sites used Teams on their own devices, which meant whoever was in the room had to manage the call on their laptop — sharing that screen as the "camera" for everyone else in the room. It worked, technically. But it was friction-laden, and in a clinical environment where people are moving between patient consultations and team meetings, friction compounds quickly.
Why the Yealink A30
Most of Skin Institute's team rooms seat four to six people — not the large boardrooms that demand a ceiling-mounted camera array. The Yealink A30 is designed exactly for this space: a compact, all-in-one Microsoft Teams Rooms bar with a built-in 120° wide-angle camera, dual microphones with a four-metre pickup range, and a 20W speaker system that fills a small room without distortion.
Critically, it's a certified Microsoft Teams Rooms device — it runs the Teams Rooms operating system on dedicated hardware, entirely separate from any laptop or PC in the room. There's nothing to plug in, no software to update on someone's personal device, and no dependency on whoever walks in.
What the Deployment Looked Like
Optimyze deployed Yealink A30 units across Skin Institute's meeting rooms, wall-mounted below each display. Each unit is enrolled in Microsoft Intune as a managed Teams Rooms device, giving Optimyze remote visibility and control — firmware updates, Teams app updates, and configuration changes are all pushed centrally without needing a technician on-site.
Each room has a dedicated Teams Rooms resource account configured in Microsoft 365. Staff book the room via Outlook or Teams calendar, and when they walk in, the room display shows the day's schedule. Joining a meeting is one touch. Presenting is one touch. The room handles everything.
The Change for Staff
The shift in meeting behaviour was immediate. Meetings start on time because there's nothing to set up. Remote participants can see everyone in the room clearly — the A30's AI framing keeps the active speaker centred automatically. The room microphones pick up conversation from around the table without anyone leaning toward a laptop webcam.
For Skin Institute's clinical leadership team, the biggest change was the ability to run multi-site meetings with a consistent, professional experience at every location — regardless of which site hosted and which sites joined remotely.
A Platform, Not Just Hardware
The Yealink A30 is the room-side component of a broader Microsoft Teams platform. Because Skin Institute runs Microsoft 365 Business Premium, the Teams Rooms deployment integrates natively with their existing calendar, identity, and device management infrastructure. Optimyze monitors every Teams Rooms device through the Teams Admin Centre, and room health — connectivity, peripheral status, update compliance — is reviewed as part of their monthly managed IT reporting.
If your meeting rooms are still running on cables and hope, it's worth looking at what a Teams Rooms deployment actually costs — and what it saves you in meeting friction every single day.
