The Optimyze Security Stack: Every Control We Deploy for Managed IT Clients

Security isn't one product — it's a layered set of controls, each catching what the others miss. Here's the complete security stack Optimyze deploys for every managed IT client, and the specific threat each layer addresses.

The concept of "defence in depth" — layering multiple security controls so that the failure of any single control doesn't result in a successful attack — is foundational to how Optimyze approaches security for managed IT clients. No single product or control stops all attacks. An attacker who bypasses email security might be stopped by endpoint security. An attacker who bypasses endpoint security might be stopped by identity controls. An attacker who bypasses identity controls might be stopped by monitoring.

Here's every layer of the Optimyze security stack and what it protects against.

Identity Security: Microsoft Entra ID + Conditional Access

Every managed client has MFA enforced on all user accounts through Microsoft Entra ID. Conditional Access policies block sign-ins from high-risk countries, anonymous proxy IP ranges, and require Intune-compliant devices for access to sensitive applications. Sign-in risk policies automatically challenge or block logins that match known attack patterns. This layer stops: credential stuffing attacks, phishing-captured passwords used from attacker devices, and impossible-travel account compromise.

Email Security: Microsoft Defender for Office 365 + DMARC/SPF/DKIM

Email is the primary attack delivery mechanism. Every managed client has: email authentication records (DMARC at p=reject, SPF, DKIM) preventing domain spoofing, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 scanning every inbound link and attachment in a detonation sandbox before delivery, and Safe Links rewriting URLs in delivered email to check them at click-time. This layer stops: spoofed email from client domains, most phishing emails, and malicious attachment delivery.

Endpoint Security: SentinelOne EDR

SentinelOne provides behavioural endpoint protection on every managed endpoint. It detects and automatically kills malicious processes based on their behaviour — not signatures — providing protection against zero-day malware, living-off-the-land attacks, and ransomware. The rollback feature can restore encrypted files if ransomware executes before detection. This layer stops: malware execution, ransomware, cryptomining, and lateral movement from compromised endpoints.

Network Security: DNS Filtering

DNS filtering intercepts every outbound DNS request from managed network environments, blocking connections to known malicious domains — malware C2 infrastructure, phishing domains, and cryptomining pools. This layer stops: malware command-and-control communication (stranding malware that's already on an endpoint), phishing link redirection, and browser-based cryptomining.

Patch Management: Intune + Third-Party Patching

Operating system patches are deployed within 48–72 hours of release for critical vulnerabilities. Application patches (browsers, Office, Adobe, and other commonly exploited applications) are managed on a defined schedule. Firmware updates are applied quarterly. This layer stops: exploitation of known vulnerabilities in operating systems and applications — the cause of the majority of successful ransomware deployments.

Backup: Immutable Cloud Backup

Every managed client has immutable cloud backup with object lock storage, tested quarterly. The backup uses dedicated service accounts separate from the main business identity environment. This layer provides: ransomware recovery without paying ransom, protection against accidental data deletion, and business continuity following any data loss event.

Monitoring: 24/7 SOC via Microsoft Sentinel

Event telemetry from all layers above flows into Microsoft Sentinel for correlation and analysis. Security analysts monitor alerts 24/7, investigating anomalies and initiating response when threats are confirmed. This layer catches: attacks that bypass individual controls, lateral movement in the environment, and anomalous behaviour that doesn't trigger individual product alerts but is detectable through multi-source correlation.

People: Simulated Phishing and Security Awareness

Monthly simulated phishing campaigns with immediate feedback training for staff who click. Quarterly security awareness micro-learning. This layer reduces: human error-based incidents, phishing click rates, and the success rate of social engineering attacks.

Security is a system, not a product. Each layer of the Optimyze stack exists because attacks exist that bypass every other layer. The goal is that an attacker who gets through one has to defeat three more before they achieve their objective — and 24/7 monitoring catches them in the attempt.
